Centre for Community Initiative (CCI) is a non-governmental, non-political and non-profit organisation started on March 7, 2002 by like-minded individuals and restructured in 2007 to deal with various issues to provide a better society through community initiative and participation for the welfare of society and in particular to persons with disabilities (PwDs).
With the vision of building a healthy and a just society with equal opportunities for all, CCI is working towards the upliftment of the marginalised communities through different livelihood and sustainable development programmes. It also shares, listens, commits and work towards building a responsive society in which the community can explore their potential and grow in self-esteem to enjoy full participation in the community.
The primary focus of CCI is close to 10,000 persons with disability in a district of 2.7 lakhs population (2011 census).
The district is predominantly social and economically marginalised tribal community of the Chin-Kuki-Mizo-Zomi dialectical group with rural village settings to the extent that the district headquarters, the only ‘town’ itself is a conglomeration of a number of villages.
Slash and burn subsistence agriculture is the only means of livelihood for interior villagers and even for many families in the district headquarters also in this remote and inaccessible part of the state bordering Myanmar.
CCI as an organisation contribute towards the society in the best of possible ways during this time of crisis in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic. CCI and also in collaboration with partner NGOs, distributed Relief materials such as Food items, PPE, Medical supplies, conducting training on Standard operating procedure (SOP) and providing financial assistance to underpriviledged families who are facing total loss of income due to the sudden demise of their breadwinner or income generator for the family, etc.
